Our friend Rich Smith from Smiths Powersports provided an easy fix if you have any problems with your GasGas electric start.
Problem - Starter would spin but starter drive (bendix) would not stay engaged long enough to start motor.
Solution - remove starter and side case - blend off any burrs that may exist on the ring gear that is attached to the flywheel.
Remove the cover that houses the bendix drive.
Remove the shim on the top of the starter drive and reinstall it on the bottom of the starter drive along with the existing shim that is already there.
This will move the starter drive upward in the housing.
When the starter is spinning, the drive gear is driven out and into the ring gear. The drive gear is held or locked out by spring loaded flyweights which operate by centrifugal force. These locks only work when drive gear is fully extended. If its not locking out, it may be to deep in the housing and bottoming out on the ring gear before fully extending.
When the engine starts and the flywheel speed exceeds the cranking speed of the starter motor, over rides the flyweights which are locking the drive gear out and allows the spring under the gear to push the gear back and disengage the starter motor.
