Husaberg Factory rider Mike Lafferty earned 8th overall at the opening round of the GNCC Series held in River Ranch, FL.Lafferty had a decent start to the day coming off the dead engine start around the first corner within the top ten. As they entered the woods Lafferty had jumped up to around 8th and continued to move forward quickly in the opening lap. When they crossed the finish line after the first lap Lafferty had moved into 5th place.
“Shortly after the opening lap, I began to get arm pump real bad. It became difficult to hold on and I lost a few positions,” remarked Lafferty. His arm pump went away on lap three but by that time he had fallen to 10th overall. “Once I was feeling good to go again, I picked up my pace and tried to close the gap on the riders I had let slip by me.”
On lap four Lafferty had passed two riders to move up to 8th place. The following lap he got around another competitor and moved into 7th position. He was able to stay in 7th for two laps before losing one spot on the final lap. He eventually finished the 3-hour race in 8th position.
“I am happy to be within the top ten in my class but would really like to shoot for a top five as this season’s goal. It has been a while since I raced a lot of GNCC’s so I am going to definitely build up slow and work toward smaller goals first.”
Lafferty will head to the Alligator National Enduro this weekend for his next race event.
